Important information and dates for Term 1 – 2021

We hope everyone has had a wonderful break and enjoyed watching the performance of the BlackCaps as they reached the ICC #1 test ranking spot- a terrific achievement for NZ Cricket and supporters. Now we look forward to our own 2021 cricket year getting underway very soon.

The start of the season is fast approaching and it would help our planning immensely if we can registrations in as soon as possible – all the information you need for this is here: Registration Page

Information Evening

We have planned a Player Information Evening to be held on the 20th of January at 6pm at the Burnside West Christchurch University Cricket Clubrooms from 6pm – 7.30pm for all new and prospective members, players and parents welcome – here is a link to the event on facebook – 2021 Information Evening

In our planning at the end of Term 4 2020 included having discussions with Christchurch Metro Cricket on what grades we would hope to be entering in 2021 and we are provisionally looking at 3 x XI’s for Year 11-13, a Colts Grade, further described below, a Junior T20 side (subject to player numbers), as well as 9a and 9b grade teams again depending on player numbers.

“The Colts grade is a top-end grade which caters for high-performing Year 10 and young Year 11 players and is very much part of the high performance pathway. We regard it as a superior grade to 2nd Grade and most of the teams in 1st XI Plate.”

Director of Cricket appointment

To enable the further development of  youth cricket this season Mark Cini has agreed to volunteer his time in the capacity of a director of cricket role, which will assist our coaching staff as well as providing player development and mentoring, including the important transitioning into club cricket.

Gillette Cup – Pre-tournament

We are again working with Burnside High School and Papanui High School to assist them putting teams on the field, if you are at either of these schools then we will be looking for player nominations once registrations close for players and sides will be selected to take part in the pre-tournament organised by Christchurch Metro Cricket.

Registration of Interest – Team Managers, Coaching Assistance and off the field help

We need help! NWYC is run by volunteers who provide their time for the enjoyment and improvement of youth cricket and we would ask that anyone who is able to assist in the co-ordination of a team, or is able to coach, or can provide some time to assist our sub-committee with off the field matters – (clothing orders, digital design, communication, high school liaison, helping social functions, etc) to please contact Shane Young 021 771 392 or Sam Gillespie 027 413 0222 or email northwestyouthcc@gmail.com
