Year 10 Colts Pre-Season at Main Power Oval
Cricket began today for the Northwest Year 10 Colts with a pre-season friendly against North Canterbury at the spectacular Mainpower oval. Daniel won Northwest the toss and sent them in to bat.
With Fin taking out their opener on just the second ball of the game Northwest were off to a great start. In the next 8 overs Fin and Lachy managed to restrict North Canterbury to just 8 runs with another wicket falling. During the next few overs North Canterbury struggled to score runs and wickets were hard to find, eventually Daniel managed to find the breakthrough after 16 overs. From then on wickets fell fast with Gurshan and Linuka cleaning up the middle order and Dihela and Aarangan taking out most of the tail before Fin came back on to take the final wicket which ended North Canterbury’s innings 75/10 after 35 overs. The main standouts with the ball were Linuka with 3/19 off 4 overs and Fin with 2/3 off 5 overs.
The chase did not start off well for Northwest with Amar, Daniel and Abdullah getting out to some quality bowling from North Canterbury which led Northwest to be 5/3. Zorawar came in and calmed things down, forming a steady partnership with Gurshan. After Gurhsan was dismissed for a well made 17, Aarangan came to the crease and added a handy 13 runs. With Zorawar out for 27, it was the tail end’s job to finish off the game, which they did with 20 overs to spare with a solid 11 not out for Lachy. The top scorers with the bat were Zorawar with 27 and Gurshan with 17.
A great start to the season for the recently promoted Northwest Year 10 team into the Colts grade. A big thank you to North Canterbury for their great sportsmanship and to Mainpower oval for hosting us.
